I'm not sure how many times I've repeated those phrases since then and can honestly say that it has become a bit of an urban legend. Does coffee really make you lose weight? Well, that depends on how you drink your coffee. If you are a regular cup holder, a regular coffee drinker, then probably yes. If you have one of those "coffeeheads", who only starts drinking coffee upon being allowed to enter the office after a long day at work, then maybe it won't make much of a difference to you.

The truth is that, although coffee has a bit of an effect on people who drink it, its impact is minimal and usually isn't enough to make a difference. The reason for this is that most of the caffeine in coffee is from caffeine based chemicals called phenols and if there are any left after the initial brewing process, they are burned off during the grinding of the beans. Although this does leave some with the illusion that the coffee is helping them lose weight, the phenols and caffeine are pretty well broken down by the body anyway.

Another question that is frequently asked is "Do phenols cause cancer?" Well, the short answer to this question is no. While there have been rumors of carcinogenic properties of the phenols, there is no evidence that they do. However, it has been studied that certain types of coffee seem to be particularly toxic to certain types of cancer cells. So, it appears as though drinking a cup of Joe may not be all that it's cracked up to be after all. However, if you're looking for something more nutritious, you may want to try a Greek yogurt or 8 oz. cup of skim milk.

It may seem strange to combine drinking a healthy cup of beverage with eating another healthy food - but when it comes to nutrition, there's no reason not to. The Greek yogurt has lots of calcium, which supports the production of hormones that stimulate fat burning. In addition, eating a cup of skim milk each day contains helpful antibodies that can counteract the effects of an unhealthy diet. For me, it definitely helps to drink a cup or two of coffee each day. But for others, this may not be enough. If you find yourself asking, "Does coffee help you lose weight?
